TITLE: "INSIGHTS INTO AMAZING TREES IN OUR NATURAL AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT"

ABSTRACT:
The introduction of this talk will open your eyes to the beauty and
diversity of trees in our area. It may remind you of childhood
experiences, to the excitement of family hiking in mountain foothills
and understanding the technical aspects of tree physics, value and
dynamics their surroundings. Learn what it takes to keep up this
beautiful suburban forest, form planning, legislation, maintenance and
order. The talk will end with some fun highlights of famous and
historically significant trees, facts, lies and stories.
The slide and PowerPoint presentation is an information-filled
compendium of visual images and facts to ponder.
This talk is relevant to scientists, nature lovers, urban foresters,
students, practicing arborists, professors, city and county staff and
residents who appreciate the surrounding we live in. The goal of the
talk is to simply heighten your awareness and appreciation of some of
the elements that define our character, our urban forest shade canopy,
and how to sustain its benefits. Amazing trees and the awesome blend
of our natural and built environment.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
A member of key organizations, ASCA, ISA and the APA, Dave
is employed as a Managing Arborist for the City of Palo Alto with the
Department of Planning and Community Environment. Dave brings to the
profession a refreshing perspective from the American Planning
Association, landscape architecture and legal tree ordinance
preparation.
His experience ranges from tree management, consulting in the private
and corporate tree care industry to municipal, legal and insurance
work. He is actively involved in environmental land use planning,
development, scoping and entitlement review.
Dave has been instrumental in crafting several municipal tree
ordinances and is involved with creative enforcement remedies to
effect tree ordinance compliance. He is active in tree care industry,
research and organizations as a resource for focus groups, cable TV
stations and local tours on the subjects of the Urban Forest, Tree
Preservation During Construction, Structural Soil, Technical Manual
and Palo Alto Architecture Week.
Dave has shared his PowerPoint presentations to professional groups
across the country, including contributions at two workshops of
'Symposium to Avoid Infrastructure Damage Cause by Tree Roots', March
and August, 2002, California, USA sponsored by the California Urban
Forest Council (CUFC), University of California, the International
Society of Arboriculture (ISA); ISA Montreal 2003 and the American
Forests National Urban Forest Conference, San Antonio, Texas
2003. Dave is a member of the El Camino Real Design Workgroup and has
authored the award winning Tree Technical Manual for the City of Palo
